No. 10 Most-Read Story of 2020: What’s the difference between a presumptive and confirmed case?

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — As part of our countdown to 2021, Port City Daily is revisiting some of its biggest stories of 2020.

Coming in tenth is a piece explaining the difference between a presumptive and confirmed case of Covid-19.

The piece dropped at a time when so many facts surrounding the novel coronavirus remained uncertain. Only a handful of counties in North Carolina had confirmed cases, with health departments announcing so-called “presumptive” positive cases daily.

But what did it mean, and was it an official Covid-19 case?
