14-year-old passes away in Dawson Street shooting

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A juvenile shot Tuesday evening has passed away, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Officers were called to a shooting at South Fifth Avenue and Dawson Street on Sept. 8 after gunfire was heard in the area just after 8 p.m. Police identified a 14-year-old male who suffered a gunshot wound; despite life-saving efforts and being transported to the hospital by EMS, he succumbed to his injuries.

The department continues to investigate the crime and the public is asked to please call the WPD at (910) 343-3600 or use Tip 411 to report information concerning this homicide.
