WILMINGTON — Season two of the ABC show “RJ Decker” has added Eden Village to its filming locations across the Wilmington, with city permits showing the crew plans to shoot there next week.
The production has obtained permission to shoot in Eden Village, a tiny home community for individials experiencing homelessness, on Aug. 24, Aug. 25 and Sept. 2. Filming is set to take place completely outside.
Two cast members will be present for the scenes accompanied by 20 extras, along with the show’s 100-person crew. The film permit notes a “small firework explosion will take place,” during filming, though this is not expected to be audible outside of Eden Village.
During filming, the northbound lane of Kornegay Avenue will be used for equipment parking; certified flaggers with the North Carolina Department of Transportation will assist with traffic control associated with the lane closure.
The “RJ Decker” crew will also be onsite Aug. 21, 23, 26-28, 31 and Sept 1 to prep for the filming. These dates will include small construction projects to be built as part of the scene. The production team reports there will not be excessive noise; no disruption to normal traffic flow or residents use of their property is anticipated.
Season two of the show has already filmed in Carolina Beach and other locations about town.
Based on Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 novel “Double Whammy,” the show’s storyline follows Private Investigator RJ Decker who takes on bizarre cases in South Florida with a bevy of people from his past involved. The trailer shows the ex-con and former disgraced newspaper photographer as he goes on an undercover stake-out and finds a dead body in a trunk of a vehicle.
The second season finds Decker navigating a high-stakes murder investigation where he is a prime suspect. It is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 15.
