WILMINGTON — An investigation of a death in downtown Wilmington is underway. The Wilmington Police Department responded to a call to the corner of North Front Street and the Second Street at the parking garage earlier Tuesday.
WPD spokesperson Brandon Shope said the police responded to a phone call of someone unresponsive in the deck. Upon arrival, law enforcement said the person was dead on the scene. Further details could not be given, due to the incident being an ongoing investigation but the victim had suffered a “medical emergency,” Shope said.
According to Sabrina Sims, administrative support specialist with WPD, foul play is not expected and there is no public threat. The parking deck, which has since reopened, is utilized by city employees of the Skyline Center and the public.
It’s the second fatal incident at a downtown parking deck to take place in the last month or so. In early April, law enforcement were called to the Cape Fear Community College parking deck to investigate the death of Thomas Broffman who died from suicide.
