Felon arrested on firearm charges

WILMINGTON — A 53-year-old man was arrested for multiple firearm charges on Thursday afternoon by Wilmington Police Department in coordination with the N.C. Probation.

Christopher Gangemi was taken by law enforcement in the 700 block of Market Street, following warrants issued for related ongoing Criminal Investigation Division/Gun Crimes Unit case. He faces three counts of possession of firearm by a felon.

A search warrant executed at a residence in the 1900 block of Carolina Avenue turned up a a firearm suppressor. Officers retrieved a handgun, gun manufacturing components, 13 grams of methamphetamine, heroin, around 50 dosage units of amphetamine, and cash during a vehicle search. 

Gangemi was transported to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

Last March the suspect was charged with a felony conviction of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a schedule II controlled substance. He pled guilty in February this year and was sentenced up to 41 months in prison and 24 months on probation.
