WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Some residents of Wrightvsille Beach will undergo a precautionary boil water advisory overnight Wednesday.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has enacted the advisory to begin at 9 p.m. on March 18 as crews replace broken valves and conduct maintenance in the water distribution system. It could result in temporary loss or low pressure for some customers.

The advisory will affect roughly 200 people at below addresses:

  • The 100 through 700 blocks of North Lumina Avenue
  • All of East Columbia Street
  • All of Atlanta Street, East and West
  • All of Charlotte Street, East and West
  • All of East Raleigh Street
  • All of East Augusta Street
  • All of Asheville Street, East and West
  • All of Fayetteville Street, East and West

The water system pressure changes increase potential for back siphonage and could introduce bacteria into the water system.

Customers who don’t use bottled water should boil their water for 1 minute and allow to cool before brushing their teeth, making ice, preparing food, washing fruits and vegetables, feeding pets or preparing baby formula. There is no need to boil water ahead of showering or bathing.

CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink before lifting the advisory.
