WILMINGTON — The area university will test its alert system the first of June to ensure safety measures are up to snuff.
The system — which includes outdoor sirens — will be tested between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. open Friday, June 6. It may require additional tests and sirens will sound off a few times rather than a usual single-sounding pattern, according to UNCW.
No action is needed from campus or community members, as it’s only a test conducted by UNCW Office of Environmental Health and Safety, UNCW Police Department and the Office of University Relations.
In an emergency, UNCW may use some or all tools and additional resources to communicate; these tools include:
- Warning Siren System
- Campus emails
- UNCWAlert text messages and calls
- Pop-up notifications on university-owned computers
- UNCW Alert Safety App connects with the Emergency Notification System and provides students and employees direct access to campus resources, the ability to chat with police dispatch, anonymous tip reporting and more.
- UNCW Mobile app that offers quick access to essential campus information and resources, including emergency notifications. Students, faculty, staff, parents, families and community members can download.
