WILMINGTON — Traffic may be backed up along Gordon Road and near Market Street as a gas leak has caused the shuttering of some lanes.

According to New Hanover County, the leak is near 6769 Gordon Road, the location of a Speedway fuel station and convenience store; all traffic is being rerouted in the area. The westbound lanes are closed, with New Hanover County Fire Rescue, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Piedmont Natural Gas, North Carolina Department of Transportation on the scene.

“At this time, there is no timeline for how long this repair will take,” a county spokesperson wrote to media in an update Thursday. “Residents and travelers are highly encouraged to avoid the area to allow crews to address the situation.”
