Located at 416 M. 30th St., the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic will begin serving the public on Feb. 19, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The clinics were funded by Wilmington native Michael Jordan; the GOAT sportsman gave $10 million to Novant Health shortly after its purchase of New Hanover Regional Medical Center to construct the family clinics.

“We are profoundly grateful to Michael Jordan for his generosity and vision in making these two clinics a reality in our community,” Ernie Bovio, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region, said in a release Thursday.

Jordan and his family appeared at the opening of 15th Street’s clinic last May. Thursday’s opening of its sister clinic at Princess Place Drive and 30th Street was a little quieter with celebrity fanfare though not with excitement as Novant representatives and community members gathered for its ribbon cutting.

The clinics serve individuals who are under- and uninsured, and offer comprehensive primary care and mental health services for historically marginalized populations. They aim to bridge the gap in poverty and health disparities by providing access without barriers, and increase trust among health professionals and the patients they serve, specifically by diversifying staff.

According to Bovio, the first location already has served roughly 1,800 patients to date: “Our dedicated teams are building strong relationships and advancing vital medical care in our community.”

The second clinic will be 7,300 square feet and house 12 patient rooms.

Jordan and Novant first paired up on the concept in Charlotte in 2019, which currently opeartes two clinics for Queen City residents.

Wilmington’s clinics are “building on the success of this model,” a release from Novant indicated.

“It’s truly gratifying to know that in less than a year, our first Novant clinic in Wilmington has already made a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of individuals and families in my hometown,” Michael Jordan said in the release. “Visiting Wilmington last year for the opening of our first clinic was incredibly moving, and it reinforced just how important access to quality health care is for the community.”
