Sheriffs office on the hunt for man involved in attempted kidnapping

WILMINGTON — Law enforcement are searching for a man who attempted an attack on a store clerk over the weekend.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is asking for public information regarding a white male with blonde hair, wearing a camo jacket, who attempted to force a female victim into the bathroom of a gas station. The man entered the Scotchman Gas Station on Carolina Beach Road near Ashley High School around 3:21 a.m. on Feb. 2, according to police.

A video circulating social media shows him come up behind the woman and place his hand over her mouth, attempting to pull her toward the restroom.

According to NHCSO, the man entered the store and went to the restroom then told the clerk there was an issue with the toilet. When she went to look into the situation, he grabbed her from behind.

The commotion from within caught the attention of two men outside of the store. The video shows them enter as the perpetrator runs away before they can figure out what is happening. The attacker left in what police believe was an SUV.

Anyone with information about the suspect should contact the detective on the case at nlee@nhcgov.com
