The Agenda: Meetings in government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. An agenda was not posted by press, but meetings can be livestreamed here.

Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E Wilmington St. The agenda includes two public hearings:

  • Consideration of a text amendment to update the current Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), the request by planning staff is proposed to amend Chapter 14, Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance
  • Consideration for adoption of the updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. at 1740 Airport Blvd. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5:30 p.m. to conduct business as needed at 1241 Military Cutoff Rd.

Brunswick Board of Elections will have a regular meeting at 2 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr.

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in Grover Plaza, 1402 Little John Circle. 

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117 S. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 4316 approval 
  • Strategic plan update

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. to discuss city facilities and city departments’ space needs. Meetings are livestreamed here

Wednesday, Dec. 11

Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m. at 805 S. Walker St. An agenda was not posted by press but meetings can be livestreamed here.

The Town of Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at the Topsail Beach Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes a discussion to consider a text amendment to section 16-96 regarding temporary signs on sandwich boards, consideration of the parks and recreation master plan, and a resolution accepting grant funds for Topsail Island Vitex Eradication Project.

The State Board of Elections will meet at 12:30 p.m. at 430 N. Salisbury St. in Raleigh. The agenda includes the election protests of Jefferson Griffin and a canvass of remaining 2024 contests. The meeting will be streamed online

Thursday, Dec. 12

Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Town Hall Council Chambers, 321 Causeway Drive. Meetings can be livestreamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Presentation of the FY23-24 audit by Martin Starnes & Associates
  • Public hearing and consider adoption of ordinance (2024) 1863 amending Section 131.04 of the Code of Ordinances in order to clarify existing restrictions on camping and the use of temporary shelters on town property

Surf City Planning Board meets at 4 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex Training Room, 214 W Florence Way in Hampstead. An agenda was not posted by press, but meetings can be livestreamed here.

North Topsail Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in Town Hall,  2008 Loggerhead Court. Meetings can be livestreamed here. In addition to finalizing 2025 meeting dates, the agenda includes exceptions in the CAMA Land Use Plan and Unified Development Ordinance proposed text amendment use for ocean hazard areas.

Topsail Shoreline Protection Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at Topsail Beach Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes the board voting on chair and vice chair, hear town updates and a Coastal Resources Commission review, in addition to setting its 2025 meeting dates. Navassa Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press, but the public is welcome to attend.

North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet in the board room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Boulevard, Wilmington, NC. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 14 Wilmington Ave.: Variances pursuant to City Codes Chapter 18, Section 18-316 and to allow the removal of specimen trees and/or encroachment into the critical root zone for specimen trees in the CS, Commercial Services district
  • Legacy Point on Shandy Lane: Variance from Article 6, Section 18-494, which requires installation of sidewalk along Shandy Lane 

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 505 & 509 Common Cap Way: New construction and landscaping
  • 9 S. Front Street: Storefront renovation

The New Hanover County Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Friday, Dec. 13

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda was not posted by press.
