NORTH CAROLINA — The state transportation agency is beginning a program to train more qualified people in its sector.
Recruitments are open for the N.C. Department of Transportation Apprenticeship Program. TAP began as a collaborative effort with the N.C. Community Colleges to help aspiring engineering technicians find opportunities statewide and create a “robust workforce,” according to NCDOT Human Resources Director Amanda Olive
“By investing in apprentices, NCDOT is building a pipeline of qualified employees who are passionate about transportation,” Olive said in a release
This will be an entryway for potential hires who may not have skills needed to be hired permanently. However, the apprenticeship will provide them that hands-on training, with the first round of people learning about design, construction, bridge work, erosion control, aviation, rail, integrated mobility and maritime. They also will earn a competitive wage and benefits.
