57-year-old swimmer passes away in Surf City

SURF CITY — A 57-year-old swimmer in distress passed away in Surf City Monday.

Surf City Fire Department responded to Beach Access #3 (1820 N Shore Drive) where ocean rescue crews were on the scene with Pender EMS, administering life-saving measures. Bystanders had begun cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before emergency personnel arrived.

The victim has been identified as Minh Ha Nguyen of Richmond, Virginia.
