Homes evacuated in Leland due to brush fire

[Update: As of noon Tuesday, the fire is still burning though controlled. The N.C. Forest Service is investigating its cause.]

LELAND — Flames off Lincoln Road closed the throughway Monday afternoon.

Leland Fire and Rescue responded to a brush fire near Playground Way just before 1 p.m. It was roughly 20 acres and threatened several homes on Playground Way, which were evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

N.C. Forest Service will drop water with air assets.
