PENDER COUNTY — Pender County Utilities has a new surface water treatment plant superintendent.

The county hired its first female in the position. Erin Jones graduated with a degree in marine technology from Cape Fear Community College in 2019 and joined Pender County Utilities as a water plant operator in 2020.

She has earned new surface water treatment licenses annually since and has shown dedication and talent within the organization, promoted from chief operator to superintendent role.

According to the county she is “strategically focused on optimizing treatment methods for removing organic compounds and ‘forever contaminants,’ addressing the evolving challenges in water management.”

“We are thrilled to have her at the helm and look forward to the positive impact she will make,” said Anthony Colon, executive director of Pender County Utilities.
