False alarm puts Hoggard, Roland-Grise on lockdown

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Hoggard High School was put on lockdown after a woman walked into the New Hanover County Senior Center and claimed shots were fired at the school.

New Hanover County Schools put the school on lockdown shortly before 3 p.m. as a precautionary measure due to a report of shots heard near the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center. Roland-Grise Middle School went into shelter in place status at that same time.

The district posted on its Facebook at 3:54 p.m. The district did not answer when it notified parents of the lockdown.

Law enforcement did a search of the entire Hoggard campus and, after confirming no danger, lifted the lockdown at just after 4 p.m. Student dismissal was delayed as a result.
