WILMINGTON — A 31-year-old man is being charged with involuntary manslaughter after a traffic incident took place at the end of last month.

Timothy Maybaum has been taken into custody with a $25,000 secured bond.

Wilmington Police Department responded to the incident near Cardinal Drive and Eastwood Road on Feb. 28, 11:15 a.m. 88-year-old Claudine Coleman, the driver of the other vehicle, was taken to Novant NHRMC where she passed away from her injuries.

WPD’s investigation found Maybaum was traveling in the opposite direction of Coleman, veered from his travel lane and collided head on with the oncoming vehicle.

Maybaum is currently at the New Hanover County Detention Center.

“WPD offers our prayers and condolences to the family of Mrs. Coleman during this time,” a press release noted.
