The Agenda: Government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, March 18

The Wilmington City Council will have an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall council chambers, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. 

Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at Town Hall council chambers, 117 Settlers Lane. The agenda includes a hearing for the updated system development fee schedule and a $29,000 auditing contract with Bernard Robinson & Company LLP.

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes a resolution regarding a tree regulation request of the General Assembly, as well as a notice of award to Wellpath for inmate health treatment. The meeting is open to the public.

Town of Leland will meet for the council agenda review at 1 p.m. at town hall. 

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in suite 175 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing to rezone 10.95 acres for 128 multi-family units per applicant New Beginnings Church
  • Quasi-judicial hearing for a special use permit on behalf of 421 Sand Mine LLC for the use of a high-intensity mining and quarrying on 144 acres of Highway 421

Tuesday, March 19

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall council chambers, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance amending the Land Development Code for various amendments and clean-up items related to permitted Uses, dimensional requirements, site design, parking, signs, and landscaping
  • Resolution authorizing the negotiation of an amendment to an installment financing contract in an amount not to exceed $32 million to finance various city projects 
  • Resolution to enter into an agreement with the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau to provide tourism enhancements utilizing $650,000 of American Rescue Plan Act Funding

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 Us Highway 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • First read of Policy 4353 on long-term suspension
  • Cape Fear Campus intercom upgrade request

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 3470/4305 – Alternative Learning Programs/Schools
  • Policy 4351 – Short-Term Suspension

The Belville ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road. The board will hear the general manager’s report and discuss the 2024-2025 meeting. See the agenda here

Wednesday, March 20

H2Go will meet at 4 p.m. at 146 Gregory Rd. in Belville in the RO Water Treatment Plant Training Room. The agenda includes discussion on the Malmo Loop regional force main and water line extension contract award, as well as an RO plant update.

Thursday, March 21

Topsail Beach Beach Inlet and Sound Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes an update on the BIS fund and discussion of an ordinance to declare the beach Vitex plant as a public nuisance and require property owners to eradicate it.

Navassa Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Oak Island Planning Board meets at 9 a.m. in council chambers at town hall. The agenda includes a text amendment in the UDO to address signs in the airport district. The meeting can be livestreamed here.

Brunswick County Community College board of trustees meet in the executive board room at 5:30 p.m. The board will hear from the executive committee, finance committee and others, and look at revision of bylaws. See the agenda here

Leland Town Council meets at 6 p.m. at town hall. The agenda includes multiple public hearings, including changes to the code of ordinances, as well as staff and council reports. It can be live streamed here.

The Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda was not posted by press.
