NH County offering free tax preparation services

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Starting at the beginning of February, the county is offering tax preparation and filing services by trained, IRS-certified volunteers.

The program is available through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and AARP Tax-Aide free of charge through April 15 to all county residents, regardless of age. Services are offered at the Senior Resource Center, downtown library, and in Carolina Beach; each has different hours, so see below for full operation times.

“Last year, we served more than 3,000 residents through these programs and we are glad to be able to offer this again,” Senior Resource Center Director Amber Smith said in a county press release.

Senior Resource Center

2222 S. College Road, Wilmington

Pick up a tax packet in advance to prepare documents. Questions or registering for an appointment, only when required, can be done by calling 910-798-6416 or visting online here.

  • First-come, first-serve in-person tax preparation: Wednesday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Drop off tax preparation, with appointments required: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., for Drop off tax preparation offered and appointments are required

NHC Downtown Library

3rd Floor: 201 Chestnut Street, Wilmington

Register for an appointment when necessary by calling 910-798-7341.

  • In-person tax preparation by appointment only: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carolina Beach Site

300 Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach
