WILMINGTON — UNCW is testing its outdoor siren system, beginning noon on Feb. 1.

The alert is tested by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, UNCW Police Department and the Office of University Relations. It does so to ensure the system is followed with proper emergency notification procedures and for maintenance needs.

Emergency notification system communication tools include:

  • Warning Siren System
  • UNCW homepage and social media channels
  • Campus emails
  • UNCWAlert text messages and calls
  • Pop-up notifications on university-owned computers

The system is tested quarterly at full volume and no action is needed from the campus or community who is registered to receive the notifications; students are automatically registered.
