Early closures in the tri-county region due to Winter Storm Finn

Businesses, museums, ferry operations, utilities and more are closing due to the winter storm passing through the region Tuesday. (Port City Daily/File)

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Multiple closures have been announced due to the storm slated to hit the coastal region of North Carolina Tuesday.

Rainfall, 1 or 2 inches, could lead to flash-flooding and winds up to 55 miles per hour are anticipated. Winter Storm Finn could bring with it tornadoes and power outages. Utility crews are on alert, according to Governor Roy Cooper, who issued a state of emergency on Monday evening.

Below are a list of businesses that have announced early closures.

Brunswick County Electric Membership Corporation

The electric corporation is closing offices at 1 p.m. Its staff is tracking the severity of the storm and has resources in place to take inventory of poles, wire and related equipment to make repairs and restore power for customers as needed. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 10.

Brunswick County Government Facilities

Brunswick County has announced early closures to select facilities and parks and one rescheduled advisory board meeting due to expected inclement weather.

The library will close branches at 5 p.m. and parks will close at 3 p.m. The plan is to reopen Wednesday per normal schedule.

All other Brunswick County government offices will remain open on regular schedules.

Also, the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. has been rescheduled for Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. at 20 Referendum Drive in Bolivia.

City of Boiling Lakes

City buildings will close at noon.

City of Southport

Offices will close at noon and the special meeting for 1:30 p.m. has been canceled.

City of Wilmington

The City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department announced afterschool programs at the Davis Center and MLK Center have been canceled.

N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher

The Fort Fisher aquarium has announced it will close at 2 p.m. on Jan. 9; however, operations and animal care teams will be onsite to continue the essential work of caring for the animals. Anyone who had reservation will be able to reschedule their visit or be reimbursed for tickets.

N.C. Maritime Museum in Southport

The museum closed to the public and will reopen on its regular schedule at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

New Hanover County Offices, Libraries

On Jan. 9, all county offices and libraries will close at 5 p.m. to ensure public and staff safety.

Oak Island Government Facilities

All of the island’s administrative offices and town facilities, including town hall, pier, recreation center, community center, par 3 golf course and public services building, will close at 3 p.m. As well the town council meeting has been rescheduled for Jan. 17 and the quasi-judicial hearing for a special use permit for a hotel has been moved to the council regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 6 p.m.

Southport/Fort Fisher Ferry

Suspending ferry operations due to inclement weather. Call 910-477-5200 for more information.

Wave Transit

Wave will suspend operations at 2 p.m. due to safety reasons if winds exceed 38 miles per hour; riders can check in at wavetransit.com for updates.

Thalian Hall and WHQR’s Cinematique

The movie “The Holdovers” has been canceled for Tuesday evening but will take place Wednesday.

Town of Carolina Beach

Offices and operations will close at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Town of Kure Beach

Town hall will close at noon.

Village of Bald Head Island

The Island Package Center and post office will close and village staff is working remotely.
