SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A local foundation is offering grant opportunities specifically for nonprofits assisting the elderly.
The Catherine Kennedy Home Foundation, established in 2000, is accepting applications for funding to be awarded in April 2024. It accepts requests from nonprofits serving the elderly population in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties. Individuals are not eligible.
The foundation was formed after the Catherine Kennedy Home, launched by and for women in New Hanover County, closed. It was then the oldest retirement facility in the U.S. When it shut its doors, it sold its properties to First Presbyterian Church and became a charitable foundation.
Since its creation, the foundation has granted more than $3.5 million to nonprofits engaged in activities meeting the needs and enriching the lives of the elderly living in southeastern N.C.
In 2023, 20 nonprofits received grants totaling $242,400.
