NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A popular county garden recently completed upgrades for a more modern experience.

The more than 120,000 guests who visit Airlie Gardens, 300 Airlie Road, annually will receive enhanced service with the completion of the county’s new guest services center. Improvements include upgrades to the ticket purchasing area and education center, allowing visitors easier access to the facility.

It also adds additional needed office space and storage for the garden operations.

The $682,000 for the capital project came from fundraising efforts held throughout the year, hosted by the Airlie Gardens Foundation, a 501(c)3 that supports and preserves the 67 acres of gardens.

“We could not have done this project without the support of our board, Airlie members and visitors from around the world who continue to make this a must-visit spot in New Hanover County,” parks and gardens director Tara Duckworth said in a press release.
