NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Repair work for a sewer main line will cause a busy intersection to close for about eight weeks.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will close a lane at the intersection of Market Street and Porters Neck Road starting Oct. 16. The right turn lane from northbound Market Street onto Porters Neck Road will be closed to traffic for pipe replacement. Parts of the lane have been closed intermittently for cleaning and patch repairs in preparation of the longer project.
Right-turning traffic will still be allowed onto Porters Neck Road from the right-hand through-land of Market; access to the Oak Landing shopping center, 8290 Market St., will remain open.
Over the summer, CFPUA crews performed rehabilitation on a sewer main adjacent to Oak Landing shopping center on Market Street. During the work, crews identified a failing section of pipe in need of replacement.
Work was temporarily suspended while engineering and design were completed and materials were ordered for the replacement project.
The lane closure is expected to remain through mid-December.
