WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College is now offering an electrical apprenticeship program to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience to succeed in the electrical industry.

“This program is only two nights a week and is completely worth it,” student Sam Taylor said in a press release. “It enables me to earn a paycheck while working with my hands and training for a rewarding career.”

Taylor utilized the program after she was let go from Tru Colors in 2022, when the brewery shuttered. Taylor worked as the office manager, but attended a job fair where she met her new employer, Premier Electrical Staffing, and was assigned to an electrical contractor who signed her up for CFCC’s Electrical Apprenticeship program.

CFCC offers a number of apprenticeship programs, including heavy equipment, collision repair, HVAC, and more.

The program offers participants:

  • Guaranteed strong entry level wage
  • Guaranteed yearly raises
  • Employer pays course costs
  • Courses offered at a variety of times so you can also work
  • Finish with a career – no need to job search
  • Journeyman card or certificate upon completion of the program – this is transferable across the United States (issued by the US Department of Labor)
