
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A suspect involved in an incident at Wrightsville Beach was shot by deputies after fleeing the scene.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to Wrightsville Beach, near the Holiday Inn on Scotch Bonnet Lane, Friday afternoon.
The suspect involved in the beach incident — who hasn’t been named yet — was spotted in midtown. According to reports from WECT, the man exited his vehicle and open fired on New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office deputies. No police were injured.
Wilmington Police Department, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wrightsville Beach Police Department, Wrightsville Beach Fire Department, and Wilmington Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Police had Market Street closed from New Centre Drive to College Road around 2 p.m.
This is developing and will be updated after a press conference with area law enforcement is held around 3 p.m.
