Pender County man charged for allegedly shooting brother-in-law

PENDER COUNTY — A 47-year-old man was charged with delivering a fatal shot to a family member on Thursday.

Michael Allen Simmons, 47, has faces second degree murder charges in his brother-in-law’s homicide. Ronald Lee Simmons, 42, was found shot when PCSO deputies arrived to the scene in the 5900 block of Shaw Highway. Law enforcement attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived; Ronald passed away at the scene.

Officers discovered the relatives lived at the same address and arrested Michael. He is being held in the Pender County jail under a $1,000,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
