WILMINGTON — Crews responded to a fire on Carolina Beach Road in the 2300 block at Starway Flea Market Wednesday morning.
According to Wilmington Fire Department spokesperson Rebekah Thurston, the call was received at 7:20 a.m. By 8 a.m., she said it was a first-alarm fire, with about 20 personnel on site.
However, it grew into a three-alarm with help coming in from roughly 60 crew, to help alleviate firefighters in shifts due to the summer heat.
One commercial structure was impacted with the ceiling collapsing; no one was injured.
It has not been determined what caused the fire, which is under investigation.
The incident also led to the shuttering of one southbound lane on Carolina Beach Road.
