WPD investigates drive-by shooting in Sunset Park area

WILMINGTON — Early Wednesday evening law enforcement were called to an area south of downtown Wilmington in response to a 911 call reporting two suspects in separate vehicles were shooting at one another.

Wilmington Police Department officers were called to the area of Burnett Boulevard and S. Front Street at 5:56 p.m. Reports indicated several occupants of a silver van and black Dodge Charger were involved in the drive-by shooting, with the incident ending at Burnett and Central boulevards.

One person was found suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Detectives on the case have revealed the people involved knew each other. Police were able to locate the van but continue looking for the Charger. 

Multiple areas of Burnett Boulevard were closed off for police to process evidence from the crime scene. No names have been released.

According to WPD, one person was detained but has been released.
