NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH — An inappropriate message on a town-owned programmable board has law enforcement seeking prosecution.

A digital board at the base of the high-rise bridge from N.C. 210 into North Topsail Beach displayed “a despicable message,” North Topsail Beach Police Department Captain Andrew Page said.

The police would not confirm with Port City Daily exactly what it said.

The sign has since been removed and the police department is investigating the matter.

Page said the sign usually gets put out in time for tourist season to update visitors and residents of important information. He also said someone physically broke into the message board to alter its language.

The person will be charged with criminal damage to personal property and disorderly conduct, due to the content of the message.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the police department at 910-328-0042.
