The Agenda: Happening this week in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, April 24

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold an agenda review at 3 p.m. at the Board of Education Center, 1802 S. 15th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a budget workshop at 9 a.m. at the Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W. Moore St. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Belville Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall chambers, 63 River Road. The agenda includes: 

  • Belville Riverwalk Park update 
  • Update on storm recovery/park repairs
  • Discussions and after-action report on movie night 
  • Budget 

The Leland Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. to discuss two variants, both dealing with minimum separation requirements between interconnections to the Town of Leland. See the agenda here. The board meets at Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Dr.

Tuesday, April 25

The Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. Meetings can be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will hold a budget retreat at 1 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The meeting can be livstreamed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet at 5 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive. Items on the agenda include:

  • James A. Wicker, applicant, on behalf of Khalid Saleh, property owner, is requesting a variance of 19’ from the 6’ maximum height requirement for a freestanding sign in the Special Highway Overlay Distric
  • Cindee Wolf with Design Solutions, applicant, on behalf of Ernest F. Faison, II, property owner, is requesting a variance of 15’ from the 30’ minimum interior side setback requirement for the property at 6505 Carolina Beach Road.

The Wilmington Housing Authority Community Outreach and Resident Services Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at Houston Moore, 1601 S. 13th St.

The Bald Head Island Village Council will hold a budget workshop at 8:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the Department of Public Safety Building located at 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here.

The Pender County Board of Education will hold a budget meeting at 5 p.m. in the boardroom of the Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117 South. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

Wednesday, April 26

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will hold a budget work session at 8:30 a.m. at Wrightsville Beach Town Hall conference room, 321 Causeway Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority Board of Directors Executive Committee will meet virtually at 10 a.m. To call into the meeting, dial 1-408-418-9388 and enter the meeting access code: 2633 731 7240.

Thursday, April 27

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. at the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a budget session at 2:30 p.m. in rooms 138-139 at the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. The meeting can be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube.

The UNCW Board of Trustees will meet at 2:30 p.m. in UNCW’s Burney Center at 601 S. College Road. The agenda can be viewed here. 

Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will meet at 3 p.m. at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. An agenda will be published prior to the meeting but was not by press. The meeting can be livestreamed here

Friday, April 28

The Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission will meet at 2 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda and WebEx link will be posted on the website prior to the meeting.
