Cape Fear Community College has extended its deadline to apply for the the practical nursing program.

WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College has extended its deadline to apply for the the practical nursing program to Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

The track is a full-time, 12-month program; upon completion graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a licensed practical nurse.

With this license, LPNs are certified to provide direct client care in all settings under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician or licensed dentist. The most common settings include nursing homes, extended car and assisted care facilities.

Over the course of CFCC’s program, students will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in collaboration with other members of a health care team.

The program was named as one of the “Top Ten Best LPN Program in North Carolina” by practicalnursing.org.

The extension is related to CFCC’s goal to combat North Carolina’s nurse shortage by providing more opportunity for people to join the profession. The state is projected to have a 12,500 nurse deficit by 2033.

“Nursing is not just a profession, it’s a calling,” said CFF Dean of Health and Human Services Dr. Mary Ellen Naylor said in a press release. “As a community college, we recognize the critical need for highly skilled and compassionate nurses in our healthcare system. Our nursing students not only receive top-notch education and training, but they also have the opportunity to serve our community with purpose and dedication.”
