NCDEQ hosts meeting for Pender residents regarding well sampling for PFAS

PENDER COUNTY — The state environmental authority will hold a community meeting in Pender County on Tuesday to discuss well sampling.

North Carolina Department of Enviornmental Quality will share updates on private well sampling underway for PFAS contamination in Columbus, New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties. The meeting will be held Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Heide Trask Senior High School, 14328 N.C. Highway 210 in Rocky Point.

NCDEQ staff will also be available to answer questions and individuals can sign up to speak at the meeting.

At NCDEQ’s direction, Chemours is sampling for PFAS contamination in eligible private drinking well downstream from its Fayetteville Works facility. For wells exceeding specific contamination levels, Chemours is required to provide alternative drinking water supplies.
