Update: Lightning thought to have caused water main break, water boil advisory in effect

Update — CFPUA has rescinded the boil advisory.

WILMINGTON — Storm damage is believed to have caused a Friday afternoon water main break near the intersection of Ann and South 15th streets, according to CFPUA, who had crews responding to the incident today.

CFPUA said on its website that a lightning strike is the probable cause of the main break, which has forced a boil water advisory for approximately 90 of its customers, who have been asked “to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. They also may use another water source such as bottled water,” according to the website.

The boil water advisory does not apply to showering and bathing, but it is recommended for all other routes of water consumption, like brushing teeth and drinking.

“The 1400 and 1500 blocks of Ann Street and the 200 and 300 blocks of South 15th Street are closed to all but local traffic until further notice as crews conduct the emergency repair,” according to CFPUA’s website.

These are the addresses and areas that CFPUA said are impacted by the water boil advisory:

1300 through 1500 blocks of Ann Street; the 1300 through 1500 blocks of Orange Street; the 200 through 300 blocks of South 14th Street; the 200 through 300 blocks of South 15th Street; all of Kendall Avenue; 123 and 201 S. 13th St.; 121 S. 15th St.; and 140 S. 16th St.
