Leland Police charge man with second-degree murder in Friday night shooting

LELAND — The Leland Police Department is charging a suspect with Second Degree Murder following a Friday night shooting that left a man dead.

According to Leland Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call on W.B. and S Road, off of Old Fayetteville Road.

Officers located the victim, 26-year-old Dondre Shaw, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers determined that Shaw had been shot after an argument.

Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene. After further investigation, detectives with Leland detectives charged Ronald Lee Merrick, 67, with Second Degree Murder. According to Leland PD, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation.

Merrick is being held at the Brunswick County jail without bond.
