CAROLINA BEACH — Carolina Beach Police Chief Chris Spivey has announced plans to retire as the town begins its search for a replacement.
His retirement will be effective December 1, according to a release from the island town late Tuesday afternoon.
Spivey began his work at the department as a patrol officer in 2000 and rose through the ranks through roles in the Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Division, and Supervisory Command Staff. He was appointed the Chief of Police in 2015.
In his letter to Town Manager Bruce Oakley, Spivey wrote, “Thank you, town personnel and community members for all your support, assistance, and care along this journey. You have all helped fuel the passion for my service.”
According to the release, Chief Spivey will continue his role as police chief until a qualified replacement is found.
