WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is asking for help in identifying a driver involved in a hit and run that left a cyclist injured on June 14.

“Around 5 p.m. that afternoon, [Richard] Ryan was riding down Dawson St. when a medium-sized grey or silver SUV struck him at the intersection. The suspect — described as a short African American woman in her 40s or 50s — stopped briefly and got out of the vehicle before fleeing. While there were witnesses, no one has come forward,” according to police.

Ryan did suffer injuries that were described as significant, but not life-threatening.

“He was traveling against traffic at the time of the collision … The agency is offering up to $500 to anyone who can provide information on the incident by contacting (910)-343-3609,” police concluded.
