ICYMI – Covid closures, UNCW outcry, WPD videos, and man attacks homeless camp [Free]

Some restaurants have closed in direct response to Covid-19 cases among staff or customers, but others are making the decision preemptively. Others have made the decision for financial reasons, finding that operating at 50% capacity isn’t financially feasible.

The public outcry over UNCW Professor Mike Adams continues, with professors and graduate students in Adams’ field joining the call for his dismissal.

Adams’ boss, UNCW Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli, has also been the target of public outcry. During a call with black student leaders Sartarelli refused to support the Black Lives Matter movement, stating ‘All Lives Matter.’

The videos of the crash scene where Paige Escalera and Stephanie Mayorga were killed on the night of their disappearance, show the vehicle was barely visible from the road — but clearly visible from above. A Superior Court judge ordered footage after Port City Daily and WECT fought WPD for its release.

The man was arrested, after attacking a homeless camp armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a .45 caliber handgun. Following the announcement of his arrest, there was public outcry about his relatively low bond — just $1,500.
