Woman who killed a man during Wilmington DWI hit-and-run gets 6-month sentence

WILMINGTON — A 25-year-old woman who hit a pedestrian on Market Street while under the influence and then fled the scene has pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run and DWI — her punishment — Six months in jail.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, “25-year-old Brook Leigh Honeycutt has pleaded guilty to felony hit and run resulting in death and DWI. Honeycutt’s guilty plea is in connection to the September 29 hit-and-run that resulted in the death of 30-year-old, Justin Allen Corbett. She received a judgment of 6 months active jail time and the remainder will be spent on probation. She has already served 120 days in jail for the DWI.”

The incident happened in September of 2019 on a Sunday, according to police.

“Around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, September 29, officers responded to a hit and run between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 5200 block of Market Street. Justin Allen Corbett, 30, was seriously injured during the impact and rushed to NHRMC for treatment. He was declared deceased just before midnight,” according to police.
