KURE BEACH — Beach town parking is a contentious issue, with officials having to choose between the potential for serious revenue and the generally negative reaction from visitors.

Unlike Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach, Kure Beach has traditionally been known for its free parking. But starting two years ago, the town began experimenting with paid parking, and the topic was one that came up for this year’s candidates.

While all three candidates were incumbents, they still took to the candidate forum to discuss issues, including parking. Kure Beach Mayor Craig Bloszinsky, Mayor Pro Tem David Heglar, and Commissioner Joseph Whitley all roundly rejected the idea of a parking structure to replace ‘greenspace parking,’ but other options remain open.

On Friday, the town posted an official notice that it would hold two public meetings on the issue.

The meetings will be held on Saturday, January 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Wednesday, January 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The meetings will be held at Kure Beach Town Hall, located at 117 Settlers Lane.
