One man dead in Wilmington afternoon shooting, no charges yet for man taken into custody

Update 5 p.m. — The victim in a midday shooting has been pronounced dead, according to police.

“A Wilmington man is dead after a mid-day shooting in the 200 block of S. 11th Street today. The 20-year-old Wilmington man was pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, just before 2:00 pm.

“Police took one man into custody from the scene, however, no charges have been filed at this time. The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with details should contact Text-a-Tip or call the Wilmington Police Department at 910-343-3609,” according to the Wilmington Police Department’s Facebook page.


WILMINGTON — One man has been left with serious injuries after a shooting that took place on South 11th Street.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the shooting took place in the 200 block of South 11th Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday and a suspect is in police custody.

“Police responded to a Shotspotter alert just before 1:00 pm this afternoon. No other injuries have been reported at this time. Police are on the scene continuing the investigation,” according to WPD Spokeswoman Linda Thompson.

The shooting comes on the heels of a shooting that took place Tuesday evening leaving two teens injured, it is not known if the incidents have any relation.
