CAROLINA BEACH — It’s only June but it turns out the November election for Mayor in Carolina Beach will see several candidates, Dorrene Stanley has announced her intention to run for mayor, a seat that Joe Benson has said he will not be running for reelection.
Stanley, according to her Facebook campaign page, is a former public safety member and has lived in Carolina Beach for three years.
“As a former public safety professional – I was held to a “Higher Standard” of Accountability – both in my personal life & career side. I believe that ALL members of government should be held to that same standard,” she said.
Her campaign page makes note of plenty of the issues that the town has faced in the past several years including what she calls the mismanagement of Freeman Park.
“Anyone who lives in New Hanover or bordering counties in my vision: should receive a discount for Freeman Park. Those folks are locals. We have lost a lot of revenue from our very own people over the past 3 years due to mismanagement of Freeman Park. Why would our local government not take these people into consideration ? Especially when they are spending their time volunteering to save the residents of Carolina Beach money,” she wrote on her page.
Stanley is a member of the Constitution Party, which describes itself as a political party of three pillars: integrity, liberty, and prosperity.
