Carolina Beach Police Department vehicle catches on fire on crowded beach

Update 5 p.m. – Carolina Beach Police Department officials have still not responded to multiple calls for information. However, other news outlets, including WECT, are reporting that there were no serious injuries involved with today’s vehicle fire.

CAROLINA BEACH — It’s a scorcher and plenty of people have made the trip to the beach to enjoy some reprieve from the heat, but in Carolina Beach, it is even hotter after a police truck driving on the sand caught fire.

On Sunday, posts circulating on social media showed a Carolina Beach Police truck in flames on what looks like the north end of the town’s beach, near Freeman Park.

Police did not respond to phone calls regarding the incident, however, the Carolina Beach Fire Department confirmed they are responding to the blaze.

It is not yet known what caused the fire or if the driver managed to get out of the vehicle safely.
