WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man has pled guilty to several charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

“On September 24, 2018 the defendant, [Jeremy Harts] was found in possession of 0.31 grams of methamphetamine when detectives came to his house on Arlene Drive in Wilmington to serve him with an outstanding order for arrest for a misdemeanor probation violation, according to a press release from District Attorney Ben David.

“Later, on November 16, 2018, the defendant was found in possession of a Hi-Point .380 ACP firearm with an altered serial number as well as a bindle of heroin in a shed behind his house. The defendant has been convicted of multiple felony theft and firearm offenses in the past.”

David said prosecuting violent criminals and career offenders is a top priority for his office and Harts is both.

“Drugs, felons, and firearms don’t mix, and we have seen the terrible consequences when those three factors do merge in the various acts of violence within our community.” Assistant District Attorney Brad Matthews said in a press release.

“Judge R. Kent Harrell of Pender County sentenced Harts to a total of a minimum of 55 months and a maximum of 93 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections,” the release concluded.
