WILMINGTON — An investigation is ongoing after a teenager was shot to death last night.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), officers responded to the 700 block of Emory Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday night. A ShotSpotter notification alerted WPD to the area, near the intersection of North 30th Street in the Creekwood South neighborhood.

Arriving on the scene, officers found the victim — an 18-year-old male —  with multiple gunshot wounds and “immediately began administering life-saving measures until EMS arrived on-scene,” according to WPD. The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

WPD stated “this is the first homicide of 2019,” but did not release any other information as of Friday morning. WPD asks anyone with information to contact the department at 910-343-3609, or to submit information anonymously using Text A Tip.
