WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) is asking for the public’s help tracking down a woman who purposely struck a pedestrian with her car Wednesday morning; CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward.

The incident happened on Rutledge Drive, near the Port of Wilmington.

According to WPD, “The victim told officers she was walking back from the store with an acquaintance when she heard a horn honking and saw the man with whom she was walking jump out of the way around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday. The driver of the suspect vehicle, a black sedan, intentionally swerved off the roadway to strike the pedestrians. The suspect struck the victim on her right hip, launching her into the air several feet, before landing on her left side. The victim suffered multiple injuries to her head, shoulder, hips, and knees.”

The male pedestrian fled the scene and did not return, according to WPD it is believed that he knows the driver.

“The suspect driver is described as a light-skinned black female, 25-30 years old. Anyone with information on the suspect or the male pedestrian should contact WPD at 910.343.3609 or use Text A Tip to remain anonymous,” according to WPD.
