LELAND — More housing is likely headed for Leland’s Westgate community.
With Ploof Road complete and the Tradeway Drive roundabout flowing with traffic, hundreds of residential units are being planned and constructed.

On Tuesday, Leland’s Planning Board approved a preliminary subdivision plat plan for 111 townhouse lots on the corner of Angels Way and Westgate Drive.
The approval marks one more step toward further developing the Westgate community behind Ocean Gate Plaza.
Two other residential developments — Adair Park and Comet Westgate Apartments — are currently under construction, adjacent to the planned 111 townhouse development named Summer Bay Villas.
The undeveloped 10.5-acre lot will be subdivided into 111 parcels, with a five-foot sidewalk.
Summer Bay Villas is located on land outside the federal floodplain. Last week after receiving negative feedback from residents about developing in areas at risk of flooding, Town Council voted to delay moving forward with two development plans.
Plans for Settler’s Village off Village Road and Bishops Ridge off Hazels Branch Road both feature townhouses to be built directly adjacent to the floodplain.
