WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is asking for the public’s help to find a woman who filed a false police report after her car was involved in a hit-and-run incident in what may be an attempt to escape blame.

Police have obtained warrants for Tsheena Devone Allen, 34, for filing a false police report after her car was involved in a hit and run earlier this week.

According to police, “Officers responded to the intersection of Wrightsville Avenue and Windsor Drive around 6 a.m. on [Sunday], Oct. 21, to a report that a fire hydrant was damaged and spewing water. Officers located engine coolant at the crash site and followed the fluid for approximately two miles to Mill Creek Apartments, where they observed a 2012 red Nissan Altima with heavy damage to the front and a deployed airbag.”

Just before police were dispatched to investigate the scene, Allen — the owner of the Nissan — reported the vehicle stolen; Allen claimed the car was stolen from her residence, less than a half-mile from the apartments where it was found.

According to police, Allen said she noticed the car was missing around 1 a.m., but waited until 5:30 a.m. to report it was stolen. Police later determined Allen filed a false report and she has been charged with hindering/delaying an investigation.

The Wilmington Police Department is still investigating who was operating the vehicle during the hit-and-run incident.

Anyone with information on Allen’s whereabouts or on the hit and run should contact WPD at 910-343-3609 or use Text A Tip.
