Photos: Cape Fear region braces itself as Hurricane Florence makes landfall

Now a category 2, Hurricane Florence is heading toward the Cape Fear region. With New Hanover County under voluntary evacuation, some residents have decided to stick out the storm.

SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. — With Hurricane Florence set to make landfall soon, some area residents have chosen to stick out the storm — regardless of official evacuation orders.

Brunswick County, Pender County and all barrier islands on the North Carolina coast are under mandatory evacuation orders; New Hanover County remains under a voluntary evacuation order.
