WILMINGTON — A mother killed her two-year-old son and then herself in an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday. Both bodies were discovered inside 5705 Andrews Reach Loop, a subdivision off Masonboro Loop Road.

Alissa Frey, 34, and her son were found dead from gunshot wounds after a family member “flagged down” officers Tuesday morning, according to Wilmington Police Department.

Though no 911 call was placed, officers responded to a dispatch shortly before noon on Tuesday. During the call, an officer stated he was responding to “mother threatening to harm her child.”

Frey left a note to surviving family members indicating her intention to end her life, according to a Wilmington Police Department release.

The home, owned by Anthony Gloria and Alissa Frey, was purchased less than three months ago according to New Hanover County property records.

Linda Thompson, spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department, said the deaths were an isolated incident.

“This was an isolated incident,” she said. “It wasn’t targeted at anyone else.”

The Wilmington Police Department is still investigating, but haven’t named any suspects or persons of interest beside Frey.
